Coming out of her cocoon

Clearly Mica has read the same adoption attachment books that we have and marked her calendar on when to become sociable outside the family.  We are at the six-week marker, our goal for cocooning.  Mica has grown more confident and joyful walking around the neighborhood.  In fact yesterday she declared, “Mica marche!” And so we did.  She stopped and stared at children who were kind and warm and sharing.  Then we walked by the park where she ran to the swing, watched other children, and managed to slide down the big yellow slide on the second attempt.  (Siblings were not available.).

Today was her first Sunday to attend church with the whole family – crowds, all siblings and daddy have responsibilities, new place.  I did not know what to expect.  She wanted to be held, but she liked the music.  Then we tried her class where her sister was teaching.  She participated as much as she could, and she even spoke.  Actually she engaged like any normal four-year old would engage.  Today she has started saying, “UBC;” I guess she wants to go back.

The children were learning to “conduct” themselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ by taking turns following the leader.  Mica even tried to say, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego!”
